On 29th April 2010 my younger brother Jack had a life saving heart transplant. He was 20.
Jack’s since recovered, been to university and graduated and is leading a really normal life again (as he calls it). If his donor and their family hadn’t been so generous in their time of grief, Jack would also have died.
In the UK we are so lucky that we have the capabilities to perform life saving transplants like this on the NHS. Yet only 30% of the UK population are currently signed up to the Organ Donor Register, while 80% of people say they’d accept an organ if they needed one. By completing a simple form and telling your family your wishes you’re safe in the knowledge that you’ll have saved someones life if the worst were to happen.
I want to raise awareness of the stark fact that 3 people die each week waiting for a transplant and encourage others to sign up to the Organ Donor list.
