Since 2010 I’ve officially had Ulcerative Colitis (UC) in my colon. 3 years prior to that I knew I had something very wrong but was told repeatedly I had IBS. I’ve never really spoken about my UC problems before but since being in India and having the worst flare up of my life, I want to share what I’ve learnt about controlling the disease for the last 5 or so years. This has been through a combination of diet, exercise, stress management and some prescribed drugs.
My formula is as simple as this:
Restricted diet + regular exercise + stress control + pentasa daily = reduced UC symptoms
I’m not going to say its easy to stick to. It takes time, effort and focus that I don’t always have! But when I’m doing it well and working on all components at the same time, I’m well. If I drop one, I become unwell. Read more about it here.
There’s more about when and what I eat, don’t eat and why, as well as some of the science behind it here.
I’ve also written about the exercise that helps my digestive system and controls my stress.
Finally, some tips and results of things I’ve tried to control stress in my life.
